Captain’s Choice: Round 20

Well, well, well, no Danger this week will throw the cat amongst the pigeons (but not amongst the Swans ūüėČ ) Tagging is back in vogue as well so we head with more trepidation than usual into our captains article…

SuperCoach

1)  Nat Fyfe

Was well held by Dan Howe¬†against the Hawks (93) but in the 2 matches prior pumped he out a 126 & 139 and continued that good form in the round just gone. His form and scoring is well and truly back and he’s finishing the season with a bang. With the Suns limping to the finish line, Fyfe looks poised to continue his form against them. His last two games on Gold Coast have both gone over 150 and his career low on them is an incredibly decent 116. Fyfe’s the main man this week.

2)  Gary Ablett

On the increasingly large presumption that Ablett¬†‘actually plays’, he’s the number two choice for SuperCoach this week. With various forms of doubt over many options at the moment, Ross Lyon’s comment on Thursday that he doesn’t think they’ll tag Ablett (other than to put Lachie Weller near him occasionally) was music to the ears. That suggest Gaz can do as he pleases this week, and he hasn’t scored below 120 against Freo since 2009. It all lines up for Ablett this week.

3)  Dayne Beams

Beamsy is a risk/reward pick here no doubt but he’s well capable of going big on his day and he’s done it a few times this season already, including a 130 & a 120 in the past two weeks. His shoulder did seem to trouble him last week but he’s named and has scored well coming back from injury so if he plays I’ll back him in. The Dogs tagged Merrett last week so tagging is also a concern but given how easily Zorko goes to water with it I’d expect the Dogs to tag Zorko and thus Beams should be left to do his thing.

4)  Matt Crouch

As MJ pointed out last week, Matty Crouch has been doing the business lately! Nine straight 100s in SuperCoach including five of his last six over 116 (and three x 130s), Matty is firing on all cylinders at the moment. With Port already suggesting that they’ll tag Sloane again this week, Crouch is first in line to reap the rewards of that again.

5)  Dustin Martin

Dusty’s in line for the Daniel Howe tag this week which hasn’t been good for the scoring of other premiums in recent weeks. That notwithstanding, Dusty’s form has been way too good to ignore completely, pumping out huge captaincy scores on a semi-regular basis and being solid in most other weeks, so he’s still in the top options this week.

Anyone not mentioned above has either not had the greatest record against their upcoming opponent, isn’t in the greatest form, is in line for a tough tag this week or a sufficient combination of all of the aforementioned and more such that they didn’t make the top 5 for this week.

AFLFantasy / AFLDreamTeam

1)  Gary Ablett

On the increasingly large presumption that Ablett¬†‘actually plays’, he’s the number one choice for Dream Team & Fantasy this week. With various forms of doubt over many options at the moment, Ross Lyon’s comment on Thursday that he doesn’t think they’ll tag Ablett (other than to put Lachie Weller near him occasionally) was music to the ears. That suggest Gaz can do as he pleases this week, and he’s been doing that all season bar one early game away to a dominant GWS. It all lines up for Ablett this week. Those with good memories will also fondly remember his 175 on them in similar circumstances back in 2011.

2)  Tom Mitchell

In the words of Richie Benaud, when the famous dismissal of: Lillee, Caught Willey, Bowled Dilley, occurred… “And it’s happened.” In this case we of course refer to the great Tom Mitchell finally scoring sub-100 this year. Interestingly his two lowest scores this year – his only two below 115 – were both against Sydney. It’s further curious as he went completely nuts in the 3rd quarter, scoring over half his points for the match in about a 20 minute period. Now he did roll his ankle but came back on and there is a very real chance that Richmond try to tag him this week too. Prestia is back and he was tagging before his rest; Miles also could get the job; Grigg has done it in the past and so on, so Titch really gets this slot due to his supreme consistency rather than any irresistible certainty that he’s headed for a monster this week.

3)  Dayne Beams

Beamsy is a risk/reward pick here no doubt but he’s well capable of going big on his day and he’s done it a few times this season already, including a pair of 140s in the past two weeks.

Six straight scores of 99+ in Dream Team/Fantasy including a pair of high 120s, plus a 111 earlier this year on Port, Matty is firing on all cylinders at the moment. With Port already suggesting that they’ll tag Sloane again this week, Crouch is first in line to reap the rewards of that again. May not be huge but is a safe bet to be solid.

5)  Nat Fyfe

Was well held by Dan Howe¬†against the Hawks (85) but in the 2 matches prior pumped he out a 114 & 109 and continued that good form in the round just gone, scoring 120 away to GWS. His form and scoring is well and truly back and he’s finishing the season with a bang. With the Suns limping to the finish line, Fyfe looks poised to continue his form against them. His last two games on Gold Coast have 121 & 119 and his career low on them is an incredibly decent 95. Fyfe’s a good option this week.

Anyone not mentioned above has either not had the greatest record against their upcoming opponent, isn’t in the greatest form, is in line for a tough tag this week or a sufficient combination of all of the aforementioned and more such that they didn’t make the top 5 for this week.
